Details Meeting Preparation
It’s time for your Details Meeting with your DJ! That means the wedding is not far off, so you probably have a million things running through your head. The purpose of this page is to help you prepare for your meeting with Jay, so you won’t be caught saying “Hmm, I never even thought of that!” Below is a list of questions to get you thinking about the different things Jay will be reviewing with you. If something is still undecided, that’s OK! Just come prepared with as much as possible.
-
What time does the event start and end? Does this align with the time you booked Jay for on the Main Event contract?
Does your venue have multiple function rooms? Which one will your event be held in?
-
Do you have emergency contacts? Jay will typically ask for phone numbers for the Best Man and/or Maid of Honor to have in case of an emergency. Please have these numbers handy.
Who is your photographer and/or videographer? Do you have email addresses for these contacts?
Do you have a designated wedding coordinator who will be overseeing things the day of the event? Bring their information too!
-
Where will the ceremony take place in relation to the reception room? How many microphones will be required? Is there electricity, or will a battery be required?
Can a script of the wedding ceremony be provided to the DJ?
What song would you like played as the parents and attendants process in?
Would you like a different song played for the bridal processional? Do you have a specific version in mind?
What song would you like played after the ceremony (the recessional) as you and your new spouse walk back up the isle?
-
What music would you like played during the grand introduction? Will one or two songs be used, or will each pairing have their own song? Typically, one song is used for the parents and grandparents, another for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, and another for the newlyweds.
Have you finalized the order that everyone will be introduced? Does anyone have a name that’s hard to pronounce? Jay will want to make sure he gets the correct pronunciation of every name he’ll be saying on the microphone.
-
What song have you chosen for your first dance? Is there a specific version or cover you’ll be using? Will you dance for the whole song, or would you like it to fade out at a certain point? A shortened dance is recommended if the full song is longer than 4 minutes.
Similarly, if you’re dancing with your parent(s), what song(s) have you chosen for those? Will you dance for the whole song, or fade out after a certain point?
If one of you is Jewish, would you like to incorporate the Hora into the evening?
If one of you has a Greek background, would you like to do the traditional Kalamatiano?
-
Are you planning to take your centerpieces home? If not, consider a centerpiece giveaway game!
Will you be tossing the bouquet and garter? If so, please think about song selections during this event.
Are you open to other types of wedding games? If so, ask Jay to provide some examples at your meeting.
-
Will anyone be giving a speech or toast? Who? Typically, the Best Man will speak, followed by the Maid of Honor. Sometimes the father of the bride will say a few words as well. Jay recommends no more than three speakers.
Will champagne or another designated drink be poured for the toast?
-
Will you be cutting the wedding cake? Have you chosen a song for that moment?
Will you be tossing the bouquet and garter? If so, which songs would you like played during those moments?
-
What types of music get you moving? What radio stations do you listen to? Who are your favorite artists?
What are the top 5 “must play” songs when the dancefloor opens?
Are there certain songs you do NOT want played at your wedding?
How do you feel about “line dances?” (i.e. Cupid Shuffle, Electric Slide, Cotton Eye Joe, etc.)
