My Story
From a young age, I was always fascinated by entertainers and wanted to become one. However, I was very shy and hated being the center of attention outside of my close friends, because I didn’t have a lot of confidence.
My first stab at entertaining was in middle school. I used a boombox and some blank cassette tapes to record a comedy “radio show” where I experimented with voices and sound effects. I would play them for my friends, who would not only enjoy them, but join in creating their own radio personalities, and we’d take turns being guests on each others’ shows.
In high school, I moved on to the video camera, creating characters using costumes and voices, and doing skits with my friends. In my junior year of high school, I joined the drama club, which really helped me face my fear of performing in front of people.
It was around that same time that I was exposed to mobile entertainment. My friend’s father had a karaoke show at a pizzeria in Londonderry, and our whole group would go and spend the night eating pizza, drinking soda, and singing. I was fascinated with not only the performing aspect, but the technical as well. I wanted to learn how it all worked. I got the opportunity to co-host a few times and learn the ropes. Before long, I had my own karaoke night. I fell in love with this work quickly, and I found it was the perfect outlet for me to overcome my anxiety and gain confidence reading and working a crowd.
In 2011, I DJ’d my first wedding for a friend, and then did my brother’s wedding about a month later. As I established myself as a karaoke host, I started networking with other DJs who would occasionally toss me work when they were booked up. I also got to shadow another DJ to a few of his wedding gigs so I could pick up tips and see how I could improve.
I continued at this pace until 2016. A friend of mine attended a wedding where Joey Dion, owner of Main Event Entertainment was working. My friend mentioned she knew a DJ, and Joey said he was looking to bring more DJs onboard, so we set up an appointment, and shortly after, I joined up with Main Event.
I have not looked back. I am thrilled to be a part of such a talented group of DJs who know their stuff and really care about their clients! I love having the opportunity to work with so many amazing couples and witness all the love at each and every event. I am truly grateful to everyone who has helped make this a part of my life.
